The Vetiver Journey
I've wanted to grow bamboo for a long time. I grew 75 plants from seed in the kitchen of my 2 bedroom apartment (my wife rolls her eyes here). They all died when I set them out in the Georgia farm too early in the spring. I bought $3000 of bamboo root-balls and dug 100 holes to put them in. They all died when too much rain flooded them out and the deer kept eating the shoots that they sent up.
I finally decided to look at another grass and that is when I found vetiver. Vetiver is a tough grass. Deer don't eat it. Termites don't eat it. It grows roots 5+ feet down into the ground. It will remove chemicals from water. It will grow in water for months or in a pond for years.
The only thing that will kill it for sure is severe cold for extended periods of time. My first 5 vetiver plants I ignored for 9 months to see if they would survive. They eventually propagated to 75 plants from the original 5. I'm still growing their descendants at my farm 2 years later.
This summer (2022) - I bought and planted 5000 vetiver plants on a couple of acres of land. In a year they will be able to be split into 50,000 plants. What a gift this plant is.
Buy vetiver plants today and I guarantee that you will enjoy watching them grow, sway in the breeze and send their roots down into the ground. This grass is good enough for some many things - its amazing.
vetiver is also know as khus khus and scientifically as chyrsopogon zizonaides
